Zephyr Jazz Ensemble
Students in Zephyr Jazz Ensemble (ZJE) study and play music in a variety of genres and styles: blues, swing, bebop, samba, funk, and rock. Basic improvisation skills are acquired through instruction received as part of this course. ZJE members also annually compete at MSHSL Large Group Contest and the UW Eau Claire Jazz Festival. They are also eligible to participate in Metro East Conference Festivals, and MSHSL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Members of ZJE are also eligible to participate in Zephyr Wind Orchestra, Zephyr Jazz Orchestra, Zephyr Percussion Ensemble, Pep Band, College / State/ Regional Honor Bands, and participate in band trips. ZJE receive instruction through weekly sectionals or lessons and are greatly encouraged to study privately and are encouraged to practice at least two hours per week on their instrument outside of rehearsal time. ZJE members are encouraged to attend performances throughout the metro area.
